The London Photographic Meetup Group is one of the biggest, if not the biggest, London based photography club with over 1000 members from all over London and beyond. We hold multiple meetings every month; events planned to teach photographic skills with regular workshops, events that take you in and around London to practice your hobby with other members and purley social evenings where we can relax with friends over a beer or two. We run regular competitions, including the LPMG Photographer of the Year award, which this year offers a £500 prize to the lucky winner.
Our main site http://photo.meetup.com/459/ has all the details of the events we run. If you would like to join in with these events then pop over and join up. You'll immediately have access to a callendar with listings of all the latest official group events and will be notified of new events by e-mail as they are posted.
On the LPMG.ORG.UK site, we maintain our online community with the LPMG forum, which has message boards packed with ideas, reviews and even events run by the members themselves.
LPMG.ORG.UK Features:
Forum (members can keep up to date with the LPMG on-line community action, which includes polls, tips and tricks and news of official, and unofficial meetup events run by the members themselves.
Gallery (upload, manage, rate and comment images for the LPMG competitions)
Shoutbox (post messages in the style of a guestbook and display them globally in the header)
As a group, we also have a Flickr presence, which you can opt to join in with as well.
Well, I hope you enjoy these boards and if you have any suggestions on how they can be improved, please feel free to give me a nudge.
The first of the Photo of the Day competitions has been won by our very own Keith R (Hillwalker). The image entitled Pondering was taken on the trip that Keith organsied to Groombridge Place; a garden and enchanted forest just outside of Tumbrideg Wells in Kent.

As well as the kudos of winning the competition Keith has also won six months subscription to Practicle Photography Magazine. To have your oppertunity to win a six month subscription, all you need do is come along to one of the monthly Meetp events, take a winning photo and submit it to the appropriate gallery to be appraised and voted on by your peers. Helen runs these events every month and will send out the details for the next competition.

This is a tough question. The reason why it’s so tough is that I don't know the answer! Maybe your choice of prize will be a Nikon D40x, Maybe a new Canon EOS 400D is your thing? Maybe you've already got a camera that rocks your world and what really makes your heart pitter-patter is the thought of a new lens, a spanky new TTL dedicated flash unit, maybe what you need is a state of the art carbon-fibre tripod? You can write your very own shopping list up to the value of £500.
What’s the catch?
OK, there are a few terms and conditions. First is that you must submit images that are A-class in terms of composition, focus and exposure. We've got some seriously talented photographers in our ranks and your images will need to be technically superb to have a chance of winning. The good news is that even if you're a beginner you have, simply by coming along to events, personal access to people who have enormous expertise on virtually every meet up, so go grab them and pick their brains for tips, tricks and inspiration. The other catch is that you have to be an active member of the LPMG to be eligible. If you are a UK resident then you need to attend a minimum of three Meetup photographic events over the coming year. That doesn't include the cheeky-one social events, however. Don't be disheartened if you are not a UK resident however. If you don't live in the UK then you need attend only one of the many LPMG events to qualify. You can download a full list of the entry terms and conditions and an entry form here...
Thanks to perseverance by Alex, who managed to persuade a representative of the London Metro newspaper to come and visit, we've had a wonderful piece written about us. Thanks to all of you who came on the Banksy meet and made Jennifer feel so welcome.
